Some weddings stay with you a little longer.

And Laura and Dan’s was one of those.

Not just because of how emotional and love filled their day was, but because this wasn’t the first time I’d been behind the camera for them. I had already captured them as a family. Their people. Their moments. The in between stuff that matters. And somewhere along the way, they stopped treating me like just their photographer and started treating me like part of their family. So being there on their wedding day felt less like showing up as a vendor, and more like being welcomed back in.

And that feeling carried through the entire day.

Set against the backdrop of Mt Archer, their ceremony was everything you want a wedding to be. Full of emotion, full of meaning, and completely centred around what matters most. Mt Archer is one of the most beautiful locations for a Rockhampton wedding, and it created the perfect setting for such an emotional ceremony. These two do not do anything halfway. The way they love each other is steady, deep, and so easy to feel when you are around them. There were tears. There was laughter. And there was that quiet kind of emotion that sits in your chest and stays there. When the rain finally hit on this Central Queensland wedding day We had managed to dodge the rain all day. One of those days where you keep checking the sky, waiting for it to turn, but it holds off just long enough.

Until it did not.

Right as we were heading off for bridal portraits, the skies opened up. And not just a little drizzle, it absolutely bucketed down. But honestly, it could not have suited Laura and Dan more.

No stress. No panic. Just laughter, rolling with it, and making the most of whatever the day threw at them.

So instead of chasing dry locations, we stayed right there at the entrance of Hedrick’s Lane in Rockhampton.

Before the reception began at Hedrick’s Lane, while the space was still empty and calm, Laura and Dan stepped in for a quiet moment together. No crowd. No pressure. Just the two of them.

They practiced their first dance, just the two of them in the room, and it was one of those moments that felt incredibly special to witness. Simple, intimate, and completely theirs.

It was not about getting it perfect. It was about being present with each other before everything kicked off.

And honestly, it is moments like that which stay with you.

The way they welcomed me in, time and time again, and made me feel like I was part of their family.

Being asked to capture their wedding after already documenting their lives meant more than I can properly put into words.

And I will never take that for granted.
